I like Jean Rollin films. I can’t remember the names of all of the ones I’ve seen. Requiem for a Vampire and Grapes of Death are the two that I can.

This was mental, really, really mental. I just didn’t get most of it. The subtitles fritzed out for most of the first half and my french is shocking to say the least. Still, it kept me transfixed. It was hard going, but mesmerizing. Possibly due to the high amount of stunning French women in the picture. I noticed on a recent trip to France, they sure know how to build their ladys the right way.

It’s an ‘Art’ film. (not that I realy understand what that means) I’d treat it as such if I were to try and recommend it to anyone. My brain :S

This was pretty fun. Kinda a highschool movie with madness. I haven’t seen Hershall Gordon Lewis’s ‘Blood Feast,’ I imagine this to be a slight nod to that, with the suggested Egyptian blood ceremony etc.

Abusive talking brain in a jar is all you need to know. Labor of love to watch, but pretty fun :)

Bad, bad, bad, painful Troma release of a total Evil Dead Homage?/Fuckingripoff!!!!

There was evidently a fair bit of thought in places when making this film, shame they didn’t come through in the final product. Seems it was written to what could have been an interesting formula, but again , badly carried out.

I can’t be arsed to say much about it. Watch it if you want to punish yourself…

Empire Pictures Movie… If that means anything to you you’d know what to experct. It’s hard to track down and frankly maybe not really worth the effort… but if you can get your hand on it it’s kinda fun, really cheezy and has an aged Lily Munster in it with a bit part from Geoffry Combs.

If it had more teen attitude it could have worked better. Or more gore. Or more gratuitous nudity and sex. Or more creatures.

The monster looks like a stupid version of big-foot with a pentagram on it’s chest. The trailer looked rad! But they put the best scenes of the film in it. Obviously I guess.

Not quite what I hoped for, but there you go, can’t win them all!

I really like the Shameless releases, they have introduced me to a lot of films I woulds otherwise have not encountered.

My Dear Killer, however was not one of my preferred titles. Being very good in it’s own right, it’s a very slow burn after a quite sensational decapitation scene in the very beginning of the film. (The angle grinder/circular saw scenes are not as impressive IMHO.)

Thematically, the film visits some very dark concepts. As with most of the films I’ve seen released by shameless, under the ‘Giallo’ banner, the primary subject is murder, (Giallo being a genre for crime fiction and mystery,) normally followed by/entwined with some kind of sexual deviancy.

There are dark allusions to sexualization of underage girls in some corners of ‘My Dear Killer’ that truly made my flesh creep and pose some interesting questions when you consider the vunerabillity of the character involved in this (can’t remember his name, don’t care enough to look it up now). Conversely another character is accused of consorting with an underaged girl, who’s character you would more readily associate with such activities (being more aggressive, so maybe more domineering - preferring the role of an adult over a child?) , yet this is offered a pardon by the Inspector as a bargaining tool for information. Worrying dismissal of a serious allegation? Ah well, rule one… It’s a film… (Nothing is supposed to add up logically.)

The plot for me felt quite thick and required more patience than I had at the time.

Interstingly the central piece of evidence hinged on a mirror, I felt this echoed from ‘Deep Red’ which, consequently was released in 1975, 3 years after ‘My Dear Killer.’ I felt a similarity in pace… However I’m an uneducated heathen in terms of film analysis, so I wouldn’t know, on the record. Also, I have a memory like sieve. Anyway, Did Argento take anything from Tonino Valerii here?

To surmise, I’ve done a crap job of saying anything useful about this film… If you liked Deep Red (tenuous connection) or What Have They Done To Your Daughters (About a Child Prostitution ring/ very stylishly done film!), or Don’t torture A Duckling (Again concerned with murdered children) You may dig this.

Just on a side note I remember reading about a piece of legislation that made it Illegal to show any footage of children subject to adult nudity in films (quite rightly so.) This is why Andrea Bianchi used Peter Bark, a midget to play the part of Michael in the film, who is turned into a Zombie and bites off his mothers nipple during an Oedipul breast feeding scene… Thank you once again ‘Book of the Dead’ for that excellent fact. I need to get some new books to be a nerd with.

It’s late, I’m waffling and trying to pretend I know what the fuck I’m talking about… I don’t, it doesn’t matter, I just like the sound of my voice in my head as I write.

Hahaha Jess Franco you dirty old man! Well I’m a dirty mid 20’s man for watching this piece of trash! It’s effectively soft-core porn of a very sadistic nature. Franco was mostly noted for his work as a porn Director I think. Check him out on Wiki, there’s some fairly funny stuff in the first paragraph that I could be arsed to read.

What the fuck would you expect with titles like Vampiros Lesbos!

Anyway, Ilsa… yeah, watch it if you like Franco’s work. I’ve sat through Eugenie, Female Vampire and maybe some others I forget/erased from my memory. The Sadistic Element leaves a bitter taste behind, yet presents strange questions in the fact that I’m mildly fascinated by that kind of sexuality… Guess any Taboo will command interest.

In honesty I lost interest halfway through the film and can’t remember much about it. I’ve watched too much trash and it’s blending into one big heap, clogging my mind up. Will I watch more? Probably… Why? Big perv really. Why listen to music with bad production and gives you a headache after 10 mins? Claiming some kind of individuality through Elitism. Just killing the boredom and supporting a sense of superiority because you’re into more obscure shit than other people. Then I wonder why I have a limited amount of friends who like the same shit as me… Being far too unsociable sitting at home watching and listening to the struggling reactions of those afflicted with a similar problem as me?

Melodrama, now posted on the internet for attention? Wow life is full of confusing questions. Gona spend too much time examining life staring straight into my own arsehole for answers while I try to speak from it.

Life isn’t difficult, I just seem to want to make it that way.

Don’t watch Jess Franco films, they aren’t good for your sanity.

On recommendation from Saggs.

Checked this out tonight, and it surpassed all expectation I had for it.

Originally I noted it from being listed in the Book Of The Dead (or one of the sequels) and passed over it without much thought.

Bruce Campbell is in it so should be a selling point for any cheesy horror fan, however don’t expect any level of gore in comparrison to the evil dead films. It’s cleaner and far slicker.

Written and produced by Larry Cohen makes it a pretty big deal I guess. Tom Atkins (only other film i’ve seen him in is ‘Night Of The Creeps’ - which is rad!) Is pretty cool in the film as Lt Inspector Frank McCrae, who is investigating ‘brutal’ and probably pretty random murders in New York. -I like films set in new york, they’re gona be gritty as hell… well sweeping assumptions aside, I know I liked Basket Case, New York Ripper and Maniac a lot for the atmosphere and foreboding of the setting-

The story unfolds, you’ll probably get a way better synopsis from a proper review. Bruce Campbell is in it, people die, there’s not much gore and no nudity, so you sacrifice the ‘Exploitation’ elements an Italian or Spanish counterpart would employ, however, you do get a fluid and coherent plot, with good acting and slick cinematography.

If you’re a horror Nerd you’d be pretty stoked on this, also if you’re not there is quite a lot there to keep you nterested. Check it out maybe?

Optimum R2 version is uncut and Extended and presumable more complete than the other versions, R2 Synergy, R1 Synapse etc. Check out DVD compare.net for info.
